About us

Norwegian Centre for Mathematics Education

The main task of The Centre is to lead and coordinate the efforts to improve and develop work methods and  learning strategies  in educational mathematics. The insights gained, will then be used in schools  ranging from kindergarden and elementary school all the way through  teacher education.

The Centre is intented to function as a national resource Centre for mathematics education. The Centre will work with both research and development.
The research and development, as well as recommendations and actions made, will be based on practical work and experience from different schools.

The main goal of The Centre is to develop work methods  and to give  and find examples that will contribute to making mathematical lessons both varied, exciting and meaningful for the students, from kindergarden to adult students at high academic levels.

In order to achieve this goal, students need  basic verbal comprehension as well as skills and ability to face new problems by means of good mathematical tools. It is important to stress the need to introduce new thoughts and themes that will inspire the learning process.
Knowledge about tools, didactics and plans in mathematics are  then to be developed, tested and distributed to other schools and institutions.
